Speech Arts Festival at St. Anthony of Padua School
Dear Parents,
The Grade One class, along with all the other grades, will be participating in the Speech Arts Festival. Our class will be learning the following poem "Hop and Skip" by Mary Ann Hoberman throughout the following weeks. I will send home a copy of the poem in their Poetry books as well as in their Owl Books. Please make sure to practice with them as much as possible.

Students are also asked to take part in the individual events for the Speech Arts Festival. Students can choose to do a Bible Reading, a prose recitation or a poetry recitation.
*Bible Readings - students must practice reading three different Bible Readings (which have already been selected). But on the day of the Speech Arts Festival, judges will choose just one for them to read.
*Prose Recitation - students have to select one prose piece and read it with expression and exact wording (students may or may not memorize it)
*Poetry Recitation - students must recite a poem from memory.

On Thursday, January 25th, I will ask each student what they would like to do for the Individual component of the Speech Arts Festival. I will send home all the Bible Readings, Prose Recitations and Poetry Recitations for your child to choose from on Tuesday, January 23rd. Please discuss and choose which one they would like to do by Thursday. Thank you
